Odissi Dance

Shatabdi Mallik and her Group

Gifted with a natural flair for dance, Shatabdi Mallik has blossomed into one of the finest exponents of Odissi Dance in the younger generations under Late Guru Deba Prasad Das Gharana. She started learning Odissi Dance under the guidance of Guru Sri Gajendra Kumar Panda in the year 1991, when she was only four years old. Since 1998, she is under the tutelage of international Guru Sri Durga Charan Ranbir. A recipient of both Junior and senior National Scholarship and Junior Research Fellowship in the field of Odissi Dance awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India and an empanelled artist of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India, she is also the winner of the dance competition held by the West Bengal State Sangeet Academy in both Junior and Senior categories. Shatabdi is also an empanelled artist of Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India for Festivals of India abroad (FOIS) for Odissi Dance presentation and Workshop on Dance and Yoga. She has received “Parampara Award” from Odissi Dancers’ Forum of Kolkata, “Yuva Kala Ratna Award” at Guntur and “Padmavati  Prativa Puruskar” at Jayadev Sammelan in Bhubaneswar,  “Nritya Mela Prativa Puraskar” and “Nritya Suvarna Mani Samman” at Kolkata. Being a Doordarshan artist, her solo Odissi Dance performances are often telecasted by both Kolkata and Bhubaneswar Doordarshan Kendras. She has performed at world famous festivals like Konark and Mukteswar  Dance Festivals. With blessings of her Guru Sri Durga Charan Ranbir, she has opened her own Odissi & Yoga Institute “Shatabdi Nrityayan” at Dumdum, West Bengal which is dedicated in promotion and propagation of knowledge and teaching of “Odissi Dance & Music” and “Yoga” by Nationally accredited professionals. With her group Shatabdi Nrityayan, she has participated in various Classical Dance Festivals all throughout India like Patna, Kolkata, Jalpaiguri, Bhubaneswar, Coimbatore, Chennai, Guwahati, Pollachi, Mumbai, Delhi etc. Apart from this, she along with her group has also given Odissi Dance Presentation to ICCR in its Horizon Series at Kolkata and Trivandrum in India. She along with her mother Smt. Mamata Mallik, a National Yoga Champion of India, have conducted workshop on Odissi and Yoga at several states of Southern and Northern India. Shatabdi is a Graduate in Economics (Hons.) from Presidency College, a Silver medallist in Management of Business Administration, Kolkata and a also a Post Graduate in Economics(MSC). In spite of her bright educational qualification, she has dedicated herself towards the promotion and propagation of Odissi Dance all throughout the world.
