Attestation/Legalization of Documents

Attestation of Documents Originated in India

Please note that both Government of India and Brazil are members of the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961, which abolished the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents.

Documents issued in India such as birth, death and marriage certificates, affidavits, power of attorney, and educational certificates (degree, diploma, matriculation and secondary certificates) are required to be Apostilled in India.

Any document Apostilled in India is accepted in Brazil, and therefore it is not necessary to get such documents attested again by the Consulate.

For Apostille/Attestation of documents issued in India, the competent authority is the Ministry of External Affairs, India. The service can be availed online through the e-Sanad Portal.
