General Instructions for OCI Services

Jurisdiction

The Consulate General of India, São Paulo renders Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) services only to applicants residing within its consular jurisdiction, which comprises the following States of Brazil:

  • São Paulo
  • Rio de Janeiro
  • Paraná
  • Santa Catarina
  • Rio Grande do Sul

Applicants residing in other States of Brazil are required to apply at the Embassy of India, Brasília.

Working Hours for OCI Services

Monday to Friday, except holidays (No prior appointment is required)

  • Submission of applications (in person): 0930 – 1200 hrs
  • Collection of OCI cards: 1500 – 1600 hrs

Guidelines for Filling OCI Applications

  • OCI applications must be filled online through the official OCI Services portal.
  • If you do not have an account register at ‘User Register’, select current nationality and complete the registration process.
  • If you already have an account, please login using your credentials.
  • Select the category of OCI application. Complete all sections of the application carefully. Ensure that all personal details match the passport and supporting documents.
  • Upload photograph and signature as per prescribed specifications.
  • After submission, a File Reference Number will be generated. This must be quoted in all future correspondence.
  • Ensure that all required supporting documents are uploaded online and also carried at the time of submission. Documents in Portuguese or any other language must be accompanied by an English translation.
  • Before printing, verify that the photograph and signature have been successfully uploaded.
  • Use a compatible browser (such as Chrome or Edge) while filling and printing the application.

Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected without prior notice. No requests for reconsideration will be entertained.

Fee Payment

OCI applications must be accompanied by the applicable OCI fee and ICWF charges (R$ 20).
All fees must be paid in advance through bank transfer or cash deposit into the Consulate’s designated bank accounts.
Please note that separate bank accounts are maintained for OCI fee and ICWF charges. Applicants must ensure that each fee is credited to the correct account only. Incorrect payments may lead to delays in processing.

Important:

  • Proof of payment (receipt/transfer confirmation) must be submitted at the time of application.
  • All fees are non-refundable, irrespective of the outcome of the application.

 

Mandatory Pre-Submission Requirements

Applicants must ensure that, prior to submission of the application at the Consulate, they have mandatorily completed the online OCI application and uploaded the following on the OCI Services portal:

  • Recent colour photograph
  • Signature/thumb impression
  • All supporting documents, including:
    • Current passport copy (bio page)
    • Proof of Indian origin {Cancelled Indian passport (first & last page)}
    • Surrender Certificate
    • Address proof (India & Brazil)
    • Birth Certificate (for children of Indian citizens/OCI cardholders)
    • Marriage Certificate (for spouses of Indian citizens/OCI cardholders)
    • English translations of documents issued in Portuguese or any other foreign language

Incomplete or incorrect applications will be rejected without prior notice.

Submission of Applications

Printed and signed OCI application form, with photograph affixed, along with all required documents, must be submitted in person at the Consulate. Submission by post/courier for application is not permitted.
All applicants are required to visit the Consulate in person to:

  • Submit their application
  • Complete mandatory biometric enrolment (fingerprints and photograph)

Applicants must ensure that:

  • All original documents are carried for verification
  • The application is complete in all respects prior to submission

Processing Time

Processing of OCI applications is subject to verification and clearance from authorities in India.
Applicants are advised that it takes a minimum of 45 days or more to receive e-OCI card.

Tracking of OCI Application

Applicants can track the status of their OCI application online at: Track Application Status

e-OCI Card

 

1. With the introduction of e-OCI Card, only digital OCI card (e-OCI) will be issued to all new OCI applicants as well as existing physical booklet OCI cardholders.
2. Upon grant of OCI card by the Consulate, applicant will receive an automated notification via registered email and/or SMS, informing that the e-OCI card registration has been generated and is available for download.

SOP for download of e-OCI Card

1. Log in to the OCI Services Portal (https//:ociservices.gov.in) using your existing User ID and Password. If you are not already registered, complete the registration process using the e-mail address provided at the time of your OCI application.
2.  Once logged-in, click on the e-OCI tab on the dashboard.
3.  Your application details will now appear. In the last column, click on Generate e-OCI Card.
4.  Your e-OCI Card will be generated and made available for download.
5. Download and save the e-OCI Card on your mobile phone. You can present the digital version at Immigration Check Posts and to airlines whenever required.

SOP for updation of email address

            Existing OCI Cardholders may find that an email address was not recorded at the time of their original OCI registration or the registered email address is no longer available. In all such cases, the OCI Cardholders should create a new user account on the OCI Portal using the current email address.

1. Visit the OCI Services Portal (https//:ociservices.gov.in) and register as a new user using your current email address.
2. Log in, click Apply Online, and then select OCI Miscellaneous Services.
3. Access your OCI profile by entering:
- Passport number last linked to your OCI Card
- OCI Card number
- Date of Birth
4. Select ‘Email ID Updation’ option, upload your OCI Card in PDF format and submit your application.
5. Once your application is approved, your OCI Card details will appear on the dashboard on home page. Click on the e-OCI Card tab to generate and download your e-OCI Card.

Important Note : A single email address can be linked to multiple OCI Cards. Parents may update their children’s OCI Card records with their own email address.
